The recent announcement from the White House of a federal funding freeze on clean energy initiatives has raised concerns within the Kootznoowoo family about the future of the Thayer Creek Hydroelectric Project.

Unfortunately, the freeze has put the $26.9 million awarded from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy and $6.5 million awarded from the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ Tribal Electrification Program on hold.

Thayer’s project team has been in contact with Alaska’s Congressional Delegation regarding this important matter. Additionally, the team continues to seek clarity on the status of the project’s grants from the project’s other funders which include the Alaska Energy Authority and the Denali Commission.

At this time, construction plans for Thayer Creek have been put on hold pending further clarification regarding the project’s funding. Kootznoowoo, Inc. and the Thayer project team will continue to closely monitor the situation and advocate for a positive outcome on behalf of Kootznoowoo shareholders and the Community of Angoon.
